A common language that is clearly understood by all who are involved in the evaluation process is critical to the success of the system. Terms must be defined, identified by symbols and examples given. Below are examples of some of the evaluation term that are used in the system.

A large aspect of the system that is the umbrella for the terms below.
Example: Classroom Instruction
   
 COMPETENCY Broad areas of knowledge/skills that constitute a component.
Example: Teaching to an objective
   
 INDICATOR Specific areas of knowledge/skills that constitute a competency
Example: Giving information that is relevant to the objective
   
Behavior anchors serve as the foundamental descriptors of teacher performance. Below is an example of a behavior anchor.
 

TEACHER EVALUATION BEHAVIOR ANCHORS

COMMENDABLE

The teacher performs at a level which exceeds the district's standards. The teacher demonstrates most of the indicators consistently, accurately and efficiently. If an indicator is not observed, the teacher can, upon request, provide significant and relevant information about the concept and explain why the indicator was not used or applicable.
